Opening Up

Hey, there!

Sorry for being MIA both here and on you guys’ blogs – I just got back from a trip with my best friends. It was incredibly fun, and definitely the highlight of my summer vacation.

Aren’t they gorgeous? Plus, the boxer’s name is Scooby… From Scooby-Doo!

Spider Man was there, too

Let’s just pretend I can play soccer… Hahaha

We had a trampoline for ourselves! It really couldn’t get any better.

I also met a few friends of my friend Luiza… They turned out to be great girls :)

I had to choose between a trip with my family to attend my cousin’s 10-year-old party (at the beach) or a trip with my best (girl) friends to Luiza’s house, with her family. It was a 5-day-thing, but worth every discussion with Mom and Dad.

They were actually pretty worried because of Teresópolis’s floods (the city we were headed to was near to where the floods took place), but Mom ended up letting me so. Somehow, she and I knew I needed that. You know, a few days of “carefree-ness”, fun with friends, no overthinking… just being myself. And I find it so easy when I’m near these girls.

On our 1st night there, I decided it was time to tell them my “big secret”. They knew I had eating issues, but I never explained myself the right way. So I opened up and told them all about my ED. I told them I started having disordered thoughts since I was 11, that I gained an incredible amount of weight back, and then lost it all again on 2010… I also told them about my blog, what I felt at my darkest days, why they couldn’t find me on lunch breaks… Everything.

They decided to open up, too – so they started telling me about how they felt about it, how much they wanted to grab me, shake me and force me to eat, how worried they were that I would end up in hospital… Basically everything, too.

I knew that they would someday ask about what was going on with me. Sooner or later, they would find out. And the last thing I wanted was them to know it by a “third person”. It had to be me.

It felt so good, it felt to right. Telling them the truth was the best thing I could’ve done. I’m proud of myself, but I’m happy I have such understanding and loving friends. Their reaction could be awful, but they were incredibly supportive. We all cried together, and then all three of them gave me hugs (right after a big group hug), whispering “I’m so proud of you” on my ears.

Seriously, I never felt so blessed and loved. Just remembering that night makes me want to cry – of hapiness. I guess I do have the best friends in the world :)

Anyway - I hope you all liked my last post… Posting those pictures was kind of embarring, but really worth it! They made me remember so many different things, memories… It was definitely a fun and positive experience.

Now, onto today’s news: I “won” a giveaway!

I mean, not really. But Sarah from This Lunatic Express decided to send me one of her (incredible) zines for entering her contest. She’s such a sweetheart :)

After almost 17 days of (anxious) wait, it’s finally here! I’m SO excited!

She even let me choose my favorite one! "My Baggy Pants" and "By The Skin Of My Teeth - Issue Three" caught my eye. Finally, I decided that “My Baggy Pants” had more to do with me.

DSCF6769

And I was SO right! I felt like I could relate to every single word I read. Sarah’s incredibly talented, and her life story was truly inspiring. I couldn’t stop smiling at the end! She definitely made my day :)

Please contact Sarah if you’re interested on buying one of her brilliant zines. Believe me when I say, they’re hand-made and AMAZING!

Again – thank you, Sarah :)

Am I Stylish?

Hello, everyone!

First of all, I know this is getting old, but I just can’t NOT thank you guys. Seriously, your comments never fail to make me smile. Again – THANK YOU!

Now, I’ve read some really amazing suggestions for my last cooking experiment… so I decided to make a poll!

It’s on the side – basically the first thing you’ll see after reading my blog’s title (“Fro-Yo Lover”) on the sidebar on your right.

*I tried to insert this poll on this post, but I couldn’t! After a few too many tries, I gave up. Could someone please tell me how to do this? I’m using Windows Live Writer, and it just doesn’t work!*

Can’t wait to see the results!

Now, onto the title…

You guys should know that not only one, but two lovely ladies nominated me for the “Stylish Blogger Award”!

Stylish-Blogger

First of all, I want to thank Madeleine (from Stepping To The Bright Side) and Jessica (from Tasty and Trim). Thank you so much, girls! I love your blogs, too ;)

Second of all… I gotta be honest. I was really surprised when I read the “stylish” part. I never really cared about clothes when I was young (I mean, a kid):

Around 11 years old (can you believe this is Lelê?! She and Baby Mig are SO alike!)

For side comparision.

Anyway – you get my point. Fashion was never my strongest suit.

On the last two (maybe three) years though, I’ve been developing more of a… how can I explain? Fashion sense? The thing is, this award couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m still the same non-fashionista Gabriela… but with better clothing :)

I like dressing up from time to time… who doesn’t, right?

maria18

Now, onto the award’s rules.

I must tell 7 random facts about me. Here we go!

1. When asked what would I want to be when I grow up, I would always answer “A writer”. Since I was 2. (I’m not even kidding – Grandma has videos of me saying so)

2. My Mom gave me birth when she was 25. So when she was 40, I was 15. (I love numbers that end with 5 – I was born on 1995)

3. He might not be aware of this, but my Grandfather (Mom’s Dad) is pretty much my favorite person in the world. Seriously, I don’t know what I’d do or where I’d be without him.

4. I love English. I mean, seriously. Sometimes I feel more comfortable writing in English then in Portuguese. Go figure!

5. I don’t have a “favorite color” per se, but when people ask me I always answer “white” – maybe because it reminds me of peace… Even if Lelê still says “White can’t be your favorite color. White’s not a REAL color! What’s white’s color?” (At this point, when I say “white” again, she’s pretty pissed off. So I let it go – poor baby… Haha.)

6. I (kind of) play the guitar. I mean, I love to sing and to play, but I’m not sure I’m actually good at it. Oh, the mysteries of life…

7. 13 is definitely my lucky number. And T-Swift totally stole that from me! (hahaha, just kidding. Or not…)

Hope you liked my random facts – because there’s more to come!

I recently discovered I was nominated for awards I never posted here!

I mean to do post at least one tag/award per post. How does that sound to you guys? Pretty acceptable, right?

So, yeah!

Vote for your favorite recipe name, and let me know if you could relate to any of my random facts!

(I’m sure I’m not alone… or am I?)

See you guys soon!

xoxo

Sorry, Mom…

… but this post will be about food.

I mean, of course I talk about food. In a regular basis.

But it’s been a while since I actually posted a food picture here. Maybe a few months..? Anyway. The point is, I won’t be posting food pictures the way I used to anymore.

My days of every-morsel-of-food-photographer are over.

And I don’t mean to take food pictures too often (so soon).

It can be a great way to track calories for those who want to loose weight, and it can be fun in general for those who are food bloggers. But I learned that it quickly became a somewhat obsessive habit to me.

So I’d rather take no daily food pics. At least, for a while… or until I’m ok with it. I’m used to read blogs like Gabriela’s, Kath’s or Tina’s – and they usually post their daily eats. I think there’s nothing wrong with it. Actually, I just might become a true food-blogger someday (as I truly love the nutrition/fitness topic), but for now… I think I’ll challenge myself “secretely”.

My goal is to be back with a “deemed un-healthy” food pic from something I ate. Does that sound like a challenge? Haha.

Well, enough with the explanations. Let’s get to the point here.

While at Grandma’s (and Dad’s) house, I tried a few recipes. First one was basically inspired in some bloggers’ recipes (like Ashley, Caroline, etc) for nut butters – walnut butter.

DSCF6394

No exact mesurements for this one – I just threw some walnuts in a bowl and used Grandma’s hand mixer – that’s maybe why it turned out a little too dry. I did a little taste-test and thought something was missing…

DSCF6397

And a little salt did the trick! It tasted good. I planned on mixing it again the next day (to make it more creamy), but Grandma’s sister (who was staying with us for NYE) accidentaly threw it away. Too bad :/

Grandma says we should totally do this again, though! She’s lovely ;)

For the next one, I used no recipe at all – I wanted to make a vegetable-based recipe “from the scratch”, make up my own recipe. The result?

DSCF6401

A little burnt, but delicious nonetheless. I really suck at coming up with names, so… I could use some suggestions. I’ll give y’all the recipe, you name it. Deal?

Ingredients:

- 1 medium eggplant

- 1 large zucchi

- 1 cup tomato sauce (you may use a little less if you want)

- Cottage Cheese (for sprinkling on top, I used about 1/4 cup)

- 1 cup ricotta cheese

- 1/2 a can of canned tomatoes (optional)

Directions:

Slice the zucchini and the eggplant. Spread about 1-2 tbsp of tomato sauce in a medium bake pan, then start placing the slices of zucchini and eggplant until you covered all its surface. Spread a little more tomato sauce (and a canned tomato or two, if you like), then place the ricotta a tbsp at a time. Cover it with more vegetable slices, then repeat the same process. Upon your last layer of vegetables, spread the leftover tomato sauce and then sprinkle the cottage cheese. Bake for 20 minutes on medium heat, or until cooked and golden.

Too bad I was the only one who ate this on NYE. I ate the whole tray in about 4 days. I had a very happy tummy :)

And now a snack I’m obsessed about. When I don’t feel like having a real dinner, I simply throw a bigger amount of these same ingredients and call it a night. Such a delicious combo!

Ladies and gentleman, I present you…

DSCF6461

Fiber One Cereal, Frozen Banana Slices and a blob of Peanut Butter.

C’mon, people. Doesn’t it SOUND amazing?!

Who needs yogurt when you could have a cereal mess. Haha.

And, since I mentioned frozen bananas… I’ve been really loving frozen fruit these days! Bananas, Mangoes (I wish I could try raspberries and blueberries, but they’re too expensive around here)… It’s awesome.

I have a few more recipes/combos/food pics to share, but I’ll keep that for another post. Hope you’re having a great weekend, guys!

xoxo

P.S.: Oh, and I almost forgot to say this – yesterday was Mom’s birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOMMY!
